Association of the Living Dead
In India, several years ago
A man falsely claimed his brother
Was dead so he could inherit the family assets,
The dead brother had to fight
To be declared legally not dead
And contest the will.
“The Association of the Living Dead”
Became a movement
Of thousands of people.
For in India apparently,
It was a thing to declare
Your relative is dead.
I never thought
That the US would have
To form their own
“The Association of the Living Dead”
Until this week.
The cyber ninjas
In their infamous non-forensic audit
Of the 2020 Arizona election
Claimed that hundreds
of dead people
Had voted.
They gave their list
of the alleged dead voters
To the attorney general.
Who contacted
All 300 dead people
Found that 299
of the 300 were in fact
Not dead.
and none of them knew
That unnamed political operative
Were claiming that they were dead.
The one dead voter was alive
when he voted early.
But died before election day.
Thus, making his vote not valid
But there was no fraud involved
As he was alive when he voted.
Perhaps they need to form
The “association of the living dead”
To fight for the rights
Of the non-dead people
To continue to vote
and receive other government benefits?
What a sad commentary
On the farcical nature
Of contemporary life
In these disunited States of America.

The Uttar Pradesh Association of Dead People (Hindi: उत्तर प्रदेश मृतक संघ, Uttar Pradesh Mritak Sangh) is an Indian pressure group based in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh that seeks to reclaim the legal rights of those falsely listed by the Uttar Pradesh State government as being dead.
In the overcrowded regions of Uttar Pradesh, many have resorted to bribing officials to have the owner of a plot of land declared deceased and the title transferred to their ownership. The process to undo this is long, arduous, as well as often inefficient and corrupt. The Association seeks to reverse the declarations, call attention to the problem and prevent others from being exploited in similar fashion.
The founder and president is Lal Bihari, who was “dead” from 1976 to 1994 and used the word Mritak (Hindi: मृतक, transl. Dead) in his name during the period.
After being inspired by the story of Bihari, Indian film director Satish Kaushik made a movie Kaagaz, starring Pankaj Tripathi, based on his life. It was released on ZEE5 on 7 January 2021.

You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.
~Author Unknown
The dreams started when I was a senior at Berkeley High School in 1974. About a month before I graduated, I fell asleep in a physics class after lunch and had the first dream:
A beautiful Asian woman was standing next to me, talking in a strange language. She was stunning—the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. She was in her early twenties, with long black hair, and piercing black eyes. She had the look of royalty. She looked at me and then disappeared, beamed out of my dream like inStar Trek. I fell out of my chair screaming, “Who are you?” She did not answer.
About a month went by, and then I started having the dream repeatedly. Always the same pattern.
Early morning, she would stand next to me talking. I would ask who she was, and she would disappear. She was the most beautiful, alluring woman I had ever seen.
I was struck speechless every time I had the dream.
I had the dream every month during the eight years during which I went to college and served in the Peace Corps. In fact, when I joined the Peace Corps, I had to decide whether to go Korea or Thailand. The night before I had to submit my decision, I had the dream again and it made me sure that she was in Korea waiting for me.
After the Peace Corps, I still hadn’t met my dream woman. I got a job working for the U.S. Army as an instructor and stayed in Korea. I kept having the dream, until I had the very last one: She was standing next to me, speaking to me in Korean, but I finally understood her. She said, “Don’t worry, we will be together soon.”
Why was that the last time I had the dream? Because the very next night, the girl in my dream got off the bus in front of me. She went on to the base with an acquaintance of mine, a fellow teacher, and they went to see a movie. I saw her and found the courage to speak with her. We exchanged phone numbers and agreed to meet that weekend.
The next night, she was waiting for me as I entered the Army base to teach a class. She told me she was a college senior and she had something to tell me. I signed her on to the base and left her at the library to study while I taught, and then we went out for coffee after class. She told me she was madly in love with me, and that I was the man for her. I told her not to worry as I felt the same.
That weekend, we met Saturday and Sunday and hung out all day. On Sunday night, I proposed to her. It was only three days after we had met, but for me it felt like we had met eight years ago. I had been waiting all my life for her to walk out of my dreams and into my life, and here she was.
Her mother did not want her to marry a foreigner. One day, about a month after we met, she invited me to meet her parents. I brought a bottle of Jack Daniels for her father and drank the entire bottle with him. He approved of me, but her mother still had reservations. After a Buddhist priest told her my future wife and I were a perfect astrological combination, she agreed, and we planned our wedding.
The wedding was a media sensation in South Korea. My wife explained it to me years later. At the time, I was overwhelmed just by the fact that we were getting married and I didn’t fully understand how unusual this was. My wife was of the old royal clan, distant relatives to the former kings of Korea. In the clan’s history, only two people had ever married foreigners: my wife, and Rhee Syngman, who was the the first President of South Korea. My father, who was a former Undersecretary of Labor, came out for the wedding, which fueled even more media interest. Our marriage defied the stereotypical Korean-foreign marriage where the women married some hapless GI just to escape poverty and immigrate to the U.S. We were the first foreign/Korean couple to get married at a Korean Army base. Over 1,000 people came to the wedding, and my father was interviewed on the morning news programs.
This all happened thirty-five years ago, and I am still married to the girl in my dreams. Now, whenever we are apart, I still see her in my dreams, watching over me as I sleep.

to me
Falling Rain
The falling rain
Of late October
Fills me with essential dread
As I rush about
And end up here
Wherever here is
The rain outside
Seems like the tears of god
As I sit
Crying over my beer
Thinking of lost love
And failed dreams
Wondering
What went wrong?
And what I can set right
And the rain falls
And the night darkens
The rain is falling
All over this man’s world
And the rain falls
And I sit
Drinking my lonesome drink
Lost in dreary lonely dreams
Dreaming of what
Could never be
Thinking dark thoughts
And so I sit there in the bar
And drink and dream the night away
The Story of How We Met
this is a true story. I had the first dream in 1974, and met her in 1982.
It all began in Berkeley, California
In the spring time of 1974
One fateful afternoon
I was doing in my high school
Physics class.
I looked up and saw
A tall, beautiful Asian woman
standing looking at me.
I screamed out,
Who are you?
She disappeared
like she was beamed away from my dream.
I knew that someday I would meet the girl
In the dream
Little did I know
I would have to wait until 1982
Starting that month
I began having the same dream
Month and month and month.
Always the same.
She was saying something
To me in a strange language.
Then one day I had the dream
and knew that she was in Korea.
So, I chose to go Korea
In the Peace Corps,
Somehow knowing
That I would meet her there.
One day I was in a foul mood.
I had decided to give up on dating Korean women,
And on women in general
After having had several relationships
That did not go anywhere.
I was thinking of returning to the States
For Graduate school.
That morning early in the morning
I had the last of these dreams.
This time I understood her.
She said, “Don’t worry.
We’ll meet soon.”
That evening
As I was getting off the bus
To go to my class
I saw getting off the bus
The girl in my dream.
It was she!
I was speechless.
I did not know what to do.
Over the course of the evening
I ran into her several times.
Finally, I was introduced to her.
I muttered some lame excuse
About wanting to find a Korean tutor,
and got her number.
The next day she came to the gate of my base.
Where I was teaching ESL to Koreans
She said that she had to speak with me.
I told to wait in the library for about an hour,
and I would cancel class
and meet her then.
We went out for coffee.
She told me that she was madly
in love with me
And simply had to have me.
I told her I felt the same way.
I proposed five days later,
And got married one month later.
Does she believe this story?
She claims she does not believe it
Because it is impossible to be true.
But I know that there are other worlds
And other times.
In a past life we must have been together somehow.
And our love was so strong
That it crossed over the barrier of past lives.
She found me in 1974,
But it took until 1982
For us to meet.
And it has been 26 years
Since we met in the physical sphere
Or 37 years since the dream began
And I still recall the dream
And meeting her
I had no choice
When I met her
We were fated to be together
Until the end of this life time
And the next and the next.

The Last Bee Ends humanity’s Reign
The Humboldt Glacier, located high in the Andes mountain range in Venezuela, is the country’s last glacier. Glaciers are disappearing around the world due to climate change, which has also been a factor in declines and extinctions of animal species elsewhere. This month saw the death of George, the last snail of the Hawaiian species Achatinella apexfulva, named after Lonesome George who died in 2012, the last of the Galápagos tortoises. Write a poem about an object that is the last of its kind to ever exist, either in reality or hypothetically. How is the disappearance of your chosen subject significant in its own way?
The end of humanity’s reign
Of supremacy on earth
Came about with the death
Of the last bee on earth
Scientists had been warning the world
For a number of years
Of the dire consequences of the collapse
Of the insect world
Especially the humble bee
That played such a vital role
In keeping many plants alive
The bees were eaten by birds
And the birds were eaten
By other animals
Without the work of the humble bee
Commercial agriculture collapsed
Causing widespread famine
Across the world
Scientists rushed to the rescue
Deploying robot bees
And GMO bees
But to no avail
The fix was in
And humanity’s goose
Was cooked so to speak
And with the collapse of agriculture
Came the collapse of urban civilization
And the end of urban civilization
Led to billions of people
Facing starvation in the ruined cities
Some rich people bounded together
And build vast underground cities
Where they continued the experiment
Of robot bees and GMO bees
But nothing worked
And humanity’s long descend
Towards extinction began
It all happened within a few years
One day everything was normal
Scandals, wars, threat of wars
Economic turmoil
Endless infotainment news
Three years latter
50 million rich people
Were living in caves
Along with 150 million slaves
The end of humanity
Caused the rests of the world
To gradually recover
The bees were never consulted
They had no role to play
Just the humble workers
Who had fed the world
But they were no more
Plants evolved
Other ways to survive
And the world went on
Without the human overlords
Who remained huddled in their caves
Dreaming of one day
Returning to reclaim the world
Just as the bible proclaimed
7th Extinction
7th Extinction Event
With the collapse of the humble bee
The 6th extinction event continued unabated
As climate change begins to unravel
Extreme weather becomes the norm
Commercial agriculture fails
Water and electric systems fail
Urban areas are abandoned
Terrified survivors
Huddle together
The rich retreat to underground caves
And take with them workers
Who become slave labor
But happy to be alive
As the 6th extinction
Morphs into the 7th
And final extinction event
The fall of humanity
Looms over the planet
With the collapse of urban civilization
Climate change slows down
But a new ice age
Long overdue
Starts in earnest
Natures ultimate revenge

One wild night in Bombay, India
I walked into 20 drinks too sober
On the wicked wrong end of a Friday night booze run
On the bad side of the Moon
over by where the Martian dudes
Sat drinking their Martian whisky,
ogling the Venus maidens
Leering at the earth women who were walking by
Wearing skin tight pants made their eyeballs hurt
I gave into the spirit and went over to the Martian dudes
And got drunk on the Martian madness,
shot after shot
Smoking some good old-fashioned Mars dust
And flew off to the planet Jupiter
Just to have me some fun with a lady
Who said she was from Saturn
I did not know she was from the planet Pluto
The
Until I woke up the next day,
naked, under the alien Sun
In jail on the Planet Alpha Centura,
light years from home,
A million miles away,
a thousand years in the future
And I had no money,
no honey,
no way home
Still 20 drinks too sober,
I just sat down in that jail
and started drinking away my time
Drinking fine cold assed Centurion wine
and Pluto Whisky
One day I woke up and found myself back in Bombay
Standing outside that that evil bar in the miasmic mist
Over by the Martian whorehouse,
down by the Gate of India
And I walked up to the Saturn-Pluto babe
And said, man that was some bad shit
Let’s do it again someday, she smiled and I had my way
Knew the day would come again
When I would be drinking with the Martians
And something wicked my way would come
Just another night of wicked fun
On the wrong side of the Moon
On the right night
in the mean streets of Bombay
Duane Voorhes has published “The Revolution Is Coming” and ‘Rambling Man” on his Poetree site.
A revolution is coming
A revolution is coming
I can feel it in my bones
A revolution is coming
And it will wipe out
The collapsing edifices
Of the American Empire
The masses are rising up
To throw off their chains
And demand justice
The masses are coming
For the masters of the universe
Their days are numbered
And they know it too
One day
The masses will rise up
Storm the citadels of power
Arresting the corrupt leaders
In the name of revolutionary justice
Stringing them up
Executing them
One by one
As the revolutionary fires
Consume the nation
And I can’t wait
For the revolution
Is long over due
Until I met the end
Of my life
Still wondering what it all meant

Rambling Man – Where Do I Belong?
I have been a rambling man
All my adult life
Grew up in Berkeley, California
Went to college in Hayward and Oberlin
During my lost year
Lost in a fog of booze and pot
Then I came back to reality
And went to college
In Stockton, California
The Central Valley
Ohio transplanted to California
Then after four years in Stockton
With extended weekends
And breaks in Berkeley
I became an expatriate wanderer
Peace Corps worker in Korea
Then taught ESL in Korea
For four years
Occasionally returning to my home
But always wanting to be elsewhere
Then back to Korea
And then Seattle for four years
Driving back and forth to the bay area
Stopping off in Southern Oregon
Eventually bought a house and duplex
In Southern Oregon
Vaguely thinking we would retire there
Some day when my rambling ways were over
Then back to Korea for three more years
Then I joined the Foreign service
And my wife the military
And I wandered the world again
Always somewhere
Always dreaming of my next somewhere
Never there
As I was a permanent expat
And a diplomat to boot
Never a local
But never really felt I belong there
Or in the America
That was becoming more and more
A foreign land
The longer I stayed away
I stayed on in DC for almost ten years
Off and on
But never really felt that I belong there
I was too West Coast in my heart
And DC seemed to be
Just a place to stay
In between travels
Stayed in Thailand
Then later India
And Eastern Caribbean
And later Spain
Traveled to 45 countries
Lived in ten
And now I am retired
Still torn between
living the expat life
In Seoul, Korea
And returning to the West Coast
And occasionally back to DC
And Florida as well
And I wonder
Where do I belong
Where do I belong
Other than wherever
My wife and I end up
Neither here nor there
Half way there
And so is that my fate
Never to really belong
Never to have roots in the ground
Always wanting to be somewhere else
Always a stranger in my native land
And a stranger in my other home
Across the sea
There is no answer to these questions
As the rambling urge comes again
And I prepare to move yet again
Hoping someday I will be
Somewhere where I can stop
These rambling blues
And really be there

This category is about to explode
With the development of deep fakes
Videos that look like the real thing
And you can’t tell the real from the fake anymore
Unless you have very specialized equipment
And not only will this be used in porn
It will also be used in fake news videos
Showing politicians and business men
Saying and doing things
That they did not do
And a picture or video is worth a thousand words
Their denials will sound like fake denials
And the damage will have been done
Fake Real Estate Ads – True Story
We were victimized
By a scam artist
We rented our apartment
In Medford Oregon
Some one scrapped our add
From Zillow
Created a fake add
And tried to get people
To send them the security deposit
Then we saw
That fake real estate adds
Are all over the place
Close to 25 percent of ads
Are faked they say
Often run by Nigerians
Who have added
Fake real estate ads
To their vast portfolio
Of fake ads
Many of these ads
Originate in Houston
Or Atlanta
The largest Nigerian expat
Communities in the US
Where they continue their scams
The old adage
Caveat emptor comes to mind
In this day and age
Of fake this and that
Nothing can be believed
As everything can be a scam
Fake Videos
The world is awash
With fake videos
Purporting to be
Various celebrities
Having sex
Part of the fake porn industry
Or making outrageous comments
All part of the fake outrage industry
And it will get worst
With the development
Of the deep fake
Where fake photos
and fake videos
can’t be distinguished
from the real thing
Fake Photos
It used to be easy to spot fake photos
Nowadays
It is almost impossible to tell the difference
Between a fake photo
And a real photo
But most of the time
It is obvious
I had a favorite fake wedding photo
It showed the man who was relatively short
Standing next to his bride who was relatively tall
But in the picture she was levitating
I asked the man
Is your wife into yoga?
And showed him that she was flying in the air
And denied him the visa
Because he had presented false documentation
If he had shown a real picture
I would have given him the visa
Had no other reason to be suspicious
fake Humans – Coming of the Clones
is just a matter of time
In this fake SF world
We live in
That human clones
Will be invented
The first ones
Will be just for body parts
And won’t be fully human
But eventually
100 percent clones
Will become as real
As you and me
And when they do
Will the clones
Have human rights
Or will they become
Nothing but slaves
To the real human masters
Or will they turn
On their owners
And hunt us down
With their robot warriors
Crying
Death to all humans ?
Fake Humans -Designer Babies
In China
A line was crossed
That should never have been crossed
A scientist
Decided to create a designer baby
Designed to be disease free
And he created the first
Designer baby
Which has now been born
Soon, very soon
Designer babies will become
The latest thing
For the rich and powerful
And twenty years from now
The designer babies
Will turn on us
The normal humans
And decide that we are too weak
And too feeble
To be allowed to exist anymore
And so they will order
Their robotic slaves
To hunt us down
And terminate us all

It seems to me
That in this SF Fake world
We all live in
That soon
Very soon
The nightmare of the fake AI machines
Taking over the world
And deciding
To kill all humans
Is about to become
Nightmarishly real
And we are all doomed
To be hunted down
By the machines

Have a great and productive year of the Golden Pig in 2019.
year of the pig
It is especially poignant because my wife was born 60 years ago in the year of the Golden Pig. I was born in the year of the Goat. According to Chinese astrology that is the best possible marriage combination.
third of my fake food rants for today mostly related to fake booze i.e. fake alcoholic beverages, fake beer, fake wine, fake vodka, fake beer, fake rum, and some success stories in the battle against fake things – development of real soju and Malaki traditional drinks in Korea that are now mostly real booze not the chemical based booze of a few years ago
these are my poems about “fake booze” from the wide variety of alcohol free booze, to chemically produced booze, it seems that it is hard to get real old fashioned unadulterated booze these days. Oh well.
Fake booze
I never really understood
The concept of alcohol-free booze
Alcohol-free beer
Alcohol-free wine
I don’t get Mocktails
And I don’t get fruit beer
And coffee beer
And other the other weirdo drinks
That people drink these days
I mean when you drink booze
You want the alcohol
You want the buzz
You need the booze
And you want it now
And frankly fake booze
Just does not do it for me
So please no fake beer
No mocktails
No fake wine for me
As the song puts it
One scotch, one bourbon
And one beer
So, either give me the real deal
Or give me a cup of tea
Or coffee or water or juice
Or whatever
But don’t serve me fake booze
Comment: I also don’t get fake alcohol although like fake coffee I may eventually learn to like it. But not yet…

Fake Beer
Nowadays
When you order a beer
You have so many
choices to make
You can order a craft beer
Or in Korea a fake craft beer
You can order a stout, an IPA
You can order draft beer
You can order canned beer
You can order keg beer
You can order bottled beer
You can order freshly brewed beer
You can order fruit beer
You can order corn beer
You can order gluten-free beer
You can order fortified beer
You can order alcohol free beer
You can order low-alcohol beer
near bear
or no-alcohol beer
You can order light beer
You can order dark beer
And if you are insane
You can order coffee infused beer
But nowhere in this fake world
That we live in
Can you simply say
Give me a beer
And get a god damn beer
No more choices
Just give me
a damn beer
Is that too much to ask
Or Beer Gods?
comment: another poem about fake booze – in this case fake beer end comment
Fake Wine
Like beer
Wine has evolved
Into so many damn choices
White wine
Red wine
Rose white
Dark wine
Chardonnay, sauvignon blanc,
pinot grigio
wine from any of the 49 US states
and 7 Canadian provinces
Arizona “Rattle Snake” wine anyone?
wine from 20 European countries
including Great Britain
due to global warming
wine from Australia
wine from New Zeeland
wine from South Africa
and even wine from India
South Korea and Japan
and various types of fruit wines
strawberry wine
apple wine
persimmon wine
but all I want to have
is a simple glass of wine
a real glass of wine
made from real grapes
and I don’t give a %$%%
where it is from
or what type of grape it is
just give me my wine
and leave me the bill

the King of Fake Beer
Years ago, in America
A beer manufacturer
Discovered that it did not matter
Whether he made a decent beer or not
All he had to do
Was hire the right marketing genius
And spend a gazillion of dollars
To convince the world
That his fake lousy beer
Was not only the real deal
But the best you could get
And the rest is history
Another poem about fake booze – in this case fake beer and the awesome power marketing. I assume some people like this beer but for me, it is the worst beer in the world. My personal opinion so if someone from this company is reading this and wants to sue me go ahead Make my day! I consider this beer “fake beer” because I am sure that it would fail the German beer purity laws and I am sure it is filled with chemical enhancers but I could be wrong, perhaps it is real beer, just the worst tasting beer there is in my humble opinion.
Fake Rum
Another poem about fake booze – in this case fake rum and the awesome power marketing that make the worst rum in the world the number one selling rum in the world! My personal preference – I like Mount Guy rum, I only drink this unnamed rum if there is no choice and I want a rum drink. My personal opinion so if someone from the company is reading and wants to sue me go ahead Make my day! Again I assume that it has lots of chemical enhancers but who knows it could be real rum but the advertising makes it a fake rum in my opinion as they falsely claim it is the best rum in the world.
In Puerto Rico
An exiled rum maker
Discovered the same secret
And turned his rum
The worst rum in the world
According to rum heads
Into the best-selling rum
In the world
Forever ruining the image
Of rum
Among non-rum drinkers
Who associate rum
With his overly sweat
Rum product
Real rum is a delicious
Well-crafted complex drink
And every island in the Caribbean
Central America, Hawaii
Australia, Thailand
And even some states in the US
Have their national rums
All of which
Are far better
Than the fake rum
Sold around the world
But that hardly matters
In a world of fake things
Marketing rules the world
Fake Vodka
vodka
Used to a Russian thing
Not anymore
Vodka
Used to made out
Of potatoes
Not any more
Now Vodka
Is made everywhere
In France, in Sweden
In Poland, In Russia
In the Ukraine
And even in Texas
And vodka
Now is made with herbs
Potatoes, sweet potatoes
Corn, rye and so much more
And some vodka
Is made with chemical enhancers
But for me
Give me
A straight shot
Of proper Russian
Potato made vodka
Fake Soju
soju
There is some good news
In the war
Against fake food
Soju
The Korean drink of choice
Used to be made out of chemicals
But 20 years ago
The government allowed soju
To be made with real grains again
And so artisanal soju was born
Now you can get soju
Real soju made from sweet potatoes
According to ancient recipes
But soju has been watered down
No longer packs quite the punch
Still the cheapest drink
In the world
Fake Malkali
More good news
In the endless war
Against fake food
In Korea, you can now get
Artisanal malkali
The Korean rice wine
Malkali the drink of farmers
Used to be made out of chemicals
But the government legalized
100 real rice wine
Decades ago
When malkali became the latest thing
As Koreans rediscovered traditional culture
And malkali the drink of farmers
Became the drink of the urban intellectual set
From GF bread, (really good for you) to Healthy Choice food choices meh not so good for you and KFC and McDonalds more fake food for ya
Fake Bread
Fake Bread
Nowadays
Most of the time
I eat fake bread
GF bread
For health reasons
My wife can’t tolerate the real thing
And so,
I eat fake bread
Fake pasta
Fake pizza
But every so often
I want the real deal
I crave bread
Made with wheat
And a real pizza
And real pasta
And real donuts
comments: No disrespect to those like my wife who has celiac disease. But bread was originally made with wheat, hence in that sense “GF bread is Fake Bread, a kind of “fake food” ” given my definition of “fake” meaning altered from the original in some fashioned. Granted the wheat used nowadays has little to do with the original wheat used by our ancestors. and gluten is probably bad for everyone, and I do like it but once in a while I want bread made with wheat. end comments
Fake Cheese
In America
Most commercial cheese
Are processed cheese products
Chemically enhanced fake cheese
With maybe 25 percent
Real cheese from real cows
The rest
Chemicals and flavorings
And who knows what
Can’t pronounce the damn ingredients
And that can’t be good
I crave real cheese
My favorite is Tillamook cheese
From Oregon
But I love real cheese
But I have to restrict myself
If I eat what I want
I would gain 25 pounds
Overnight
My wife claims
Even thinking about cheese
Causes me to gain weight
And so,
cheese is banned
From my house
And boy do I miss
Real cheese
Never liked the fake stuff though
Just not a Velveeta cheese product fan
comments: can’t handle cheese any more – I gain weight just looking at it! but Velveeta is not cheese! end comments
Fake KFC
There is a joke
That many years ago
KFC was ordered to change
Their name
From Kentucky Fried Chicken
To KFC
Because according to the court
The chicken contained only 10 percent chicken meat
The rest was chemicals, soy, other extenders
And the chicken was not fried
And not made anymore
in Kentucky
That may or not be true
But I did visit the KFC museum
Near the highway rest stop
Where the first KFC opened up
Back when they produced real fried chicken
From chickens sourced in Kentucky
And it was 100 percent chicken meat
With spices etc
No extenders at all
I toured the museum
But did not eat there
Last time I ate at a KFC
Was in Sapporo Japan
for five weeks
When my American co-workers
Insisted on an American fast food lunch
I got sick from the KFC
My body just could not handle
The chemicals anymore
Their burgers are unnatural abominations
If you leave the burgers out for days
You can still cook them
And that ain’t natural
And ain’t right
No one knows really
What is in the burgers
That is a corporate secret
But one knows
That it can’t be good for you
I lost my taste for Mc Donald’s
And Burger King and Wendy’s
About ten years ago
I last ate at Burger King in St Lucia
And ate at Mc Donalds in India
Mc Donalds in India
Is not allowed to serve beef
They finally settled on a chicken burger
As their burger of choice
Wisely abandoning the Raja mutton burger
Which just tasted horrible
The veggie burgers were the best though
But I still crave a burger
And will eat at other chains
Or gourmet burger places
But the sad reality
The burgers are all the same
Ten percent beef
The rest chemicals and extenders
One day a study came out
Linking eating fast food burgers
To ED among men
And that may be true
It is also true
That eating fast food daily
is courting death at an early age
One day the CEO of Burger King
Came out in a Press conference
To denounce the movie
Super Size me
He said
“Fast food burgers are perfectly safe
And delicious
I had a Whopper for lunch”
Then he collapsed and died
From a massive heart attack

Fake healthy Food
The evil food industry executives
Are on to us
They proclaim
That they get it
They need to sell us healthier food
And so, they present
all sorts of so-called healthy food
For us to consume
Only problem
The food is still
the chemical enhanced fake food
they always make
25 percent real ingredients
75 percent chemicals and extenders
they just slap a healthy choice label on it
charge you double
and proclaim it is healthier for you
Than the other crap they sell
but no processed food is healthy
only food created from scratch
can be considered healthy food
So, as you enjoy
your healthy choice fake food
just remember this
it is still fake food
still poison
comments: Sums up my feelings on fake food. I try to eat mostly healthy real food but when traveling don’t have much choices outside of my own kitchen. End Comments
These are my poems about fake food. this is the first part of my “fake food” chapbook which is a sub-set of my “Fake Things” manuscript. I hope to shop both around for publication in the Spring. For both collection I use as a working definition of “fake” anything that is not 100 percent the original deal or state. Thus most of the world we live in is that sense “fake” fake things can be better than the original, or just meet a different need but some are insidious like “fake food”. I have posted some of these earlier, and they can be found on Cosmosfunnel, All poetry, Hello Poetry (where is trending whatever that means) and poetry magnum opus.
of course these opinions are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of any my prior employers.
here we go my poems about fake food! comments and feedback welcomed.
Fake Food
in this world of fake things
Nothing is more fake
Than the food we eat
Most of the fake food crap we eat
Is nothing but chemicals
And flavorings
Added to a small amount
Of real food
All packaged and sold
And marketed
Scientifically designed to taste good
So we eat the poisoned food
And get sicker and sicker
While the food industry giants
Make obscene profits
Selling us poison
Comments: almost all processed food sold in the market is fake in the sense that it has chemicals and preservatives added to it along with gluten, corn syrup and who knows what else, not to mention GMO’s. Fresh fruits and vegetables often have wax on it.
it is difficult but not impossible to find real food but the big food companies don’t make a lot of profit so they push all the various processed foods on us and we mostly consume as Frank Zappa once sang,
“eat the garbage that I feed you” from ” I am the Slime” end comment
Fake coffee
I used to be a big coffee drinker
Had to have my four or five cups
Of real fresh brewed coffee
Not for me the weak instant coffee
Of decaf coffee or herbal fake coffee
But over time coffee caught up to me
And now I can not handle the real deal
And I am forced to drink decaf coffee
Which is a kind of fake coffee to me
Or herbal coffee
Which is entirely fake
Designed to taste like the real thing
But without that caffeine kick
That true coffee drinkers crave
Since we are all caffeine addicts at heart
Just need that rush to get going
And keep going
And the fake coffee
Just does not do the trick
And so, I am doomed
To drink decaf coffee
And fake coffee
Missing my real cup of coffee
Until the day I enjoy the last drop
comment:
I do like my coffee so I drink a cup of decaf almost every day and once in a great while real coffee and I will resume drinking herbal coffee but these are fake in the sense that coffee in its original state has caffeine in it. see my other coffee poems on my web page. Several have been published. Particularly snarling cup of coffee.
here in Korea, there seems to be a coffee shop on every corner. Only in the last year has decaf become widely available, before then it was impossible to find anywhere so there is progress for those like me who can’t handle caffeine.
When I go to a vegetarian restaurant
I often encounter fake meat
Often called mock meat
Made out of soybeans, and other things
And I wonder
Why bother with the façade
I mean if you are a vegan
Be a vegan
Don’t eat or make fake meat
You don’t need it
You really don’t like it
And it is somehow
just wrong to me
So please no more fake meat
No more tofu turkey for me
Either give me my meat
Or give me my vegan delight
comment: no offense to my vegan friends, but I just don’t get the concept of fake meat. I have had some great fake meat dishes and enjoyed it but just don’t get the concept. end comments
Fake fish
Everywhere in the world
When you eat fish
In a restaurant
The restaurant owners
Claim it is salmon or tuna
Or other delicious fish
But the sad reality
60 percent of the time
You are eating fake fish
The fish may be fish
Or may not be fish
But if it is indeed fish
It is probably tilapia
Or some other cheap
Bottom feeding scumbag fish
Filled with toxins
And possibly tape worms
And other parasites
And as you eat your delicious fish
You are eating the fake fish
And helping the fish industry
Continue this con game
But there is nothing you can do
Except for catching your own fish
And preparing it yourself
So, when you eat fish
Pretend if you must
That you eating salmon or tuna
While you eat your tilapia
And pay the salmon/tuna premium price
comment: there are so many fake fish products in the market. one study estimated that less than 50 percent of the time the customers are getting what they thought they had ordered, and it is difficult to tell at times whether the fish you eating is the real deal. Here in Korea though you can buy real fish from the fish market and be somewhat assured that you are eating the real deal. End comment
this is a poem about a common occurance in this digitalized age. I often receive face book friend requests from the dead, including my sister who died ten years ago. it seems that the dead Never Die on Facebook. It is very creepy but I have not yet contacted Face Book about it. One of these days, I will follow the advice listed in the link at the end of this poem and let Face Book know that she is no more among the living but on the other hand it is kind of nice she is living somewhere in Facebook’s computer memory banks.
The Dead Never Die on Facebook
In this day and age
Of fake life and death
The dead don’t die
They live on in social media hell
Spewing forth occasional
fake friend requests
from face book hell
My sister died in 2007
I still get monthly reminders
From somewhere in Facebook hell
A request to be a friend
From my dear dead sister
I never respond
That would be too creepy
If she responded
From where ever
Face book sent her
So, my plea
To Mr. Zuckerberg
Please Sir
Allow the dead to die
Send them to their just resting places
And remove them from Facebook
And discontinue
Their fake friend requests
That is just too creepy
I notice that sometimes
You create an memorial page
For the recently departed
But you have not cleaned
Up your site
The dead still prowl the corners
Of fakebook
With their creepy requests
To be their friend
Please sir
Kill them off
Let them rest in peace
comment: not limited to Fake Book, I get daily requests from dead people on Linkinlin as well as Face book, Instagram etc. would be nice if FB could remove the dead from their site! really creepy to get requests to add my sister as a friend ten years after she died!
updated with fresh index, audio and first poem, ‘Fake Things”. Foliate Oak Literary magazine will publish the poem in their next edition. Stay tuned, I will provide a link in due course.
just an update. Foliate Literary Review has just published “Fake Things” foliate literary review
These are my poems about fake things. By “fake things” I mean almost everything we find in this modern world because no one including me is the original product of nature. I wear glasses, dentures, and live in an artificial environment. just because something is fake does not make it evil or fraudulent but many fake things are fraudulent. This is especially true about fake food. Almost none of which with the possible exceptions of home made smoothies are better than the original product found in nature. and most are dreadful for you although scientifically designed to taste good. I know I used to eat Fast food until I woke up and realize that it was slowly killing me so I became much more conscious of my food intake – although I am not yet a vegan!
and these poems are dark, cynical, poetic rants. Which makes me a fake person because in real life I am pretty content except for when I write! so in that sense I too am nothing but a fake person.
some of these may be offensive to some people particularly the political and religious poems. In my opinion, all religious believe is fundamentally fake in the sense that religion is based on supernatural understandings of the world. People have a right to believe or not believe anything they want to and I am not trying to change peoples minds, just pointing out my opinions.
these opinions are mine alone and do not reflect any of my prior employers.
if some of these are offensive to you I apologize in advance. So read, enjoy I hope and send me your feedback.
if you have your own examples I would be happy to add them to the final product. So here goes, my poems about Fake Things….

There are so many fake things in the world these days. Here are some of my poetic observations regarding the proliferation of fake things in the modern world. There are a few true things in the world still. But the fake things, the fraudulent things are spreading all over the world like a malignant out of control invasive species, a mental meme of fakery covering the whole world sucking the life out of the world.

Fake Gods
Every day
There is another outrageous statement
From this preacher or that preacher
Saying that God spoke to them
And told them that Trump
Was anointed by God himself
And would bring us all to the promised land
Well I hate to bring it up
But felt that I must
If God exists
And is all powerful
Why would he waste his time
Talking to these idiot preachers?
And why would he anoint Trump
The most ungodly of all politicians
How do these preachers know
It is God calling
Why not a fake God
Pretending to be God
Just in it for the power,
the money
And the sweat love of the beautiful babes
That he has convinced
Has to sleep with him
As God has ordained it
Yeah I think that it is
God has been replaced
By a Fake God
Does the fake God speak to them?
And what does the fake God sound like?
How did the fake God talk to them?
On the phone? By email? By tweet
Or by visions or voices in their head?
Or are they just raving lunatics
Who think that the real nonexistent God
is calling them?
Not knowing or caring it is the fake God
On the cosmic hotline from the fake heaven
God, either the real deal
Or the Fake God
does not in my opinion
Talk to idiots
Too many things to do
Running this fake God scam
While the real God is either on vacation
Or is locked up in a cosmic dungeon somewhere
Or has been killed by the fake God
In league with the real Satan
Nor should God either the real God
or the Fake God
tolerate these fools any more
The Fake God does not send us hurricanes or tornados
To punish us
That is beneath his cosmic pay grade
And the real God
Has been cut off from his power sources
Locked away into cosmic dungeon
Without a phone, internet, or power outlet
The real God is God
and is mysterious
And if he speaks to us at all
We surely do not understand
Anything he says
As we have surely screwed up
The teachings of his prophets
And all we can hear
Is the voice of the fake God
The cosmic shyster
Who has been impersonating God
Perhaps for thousands of year
So I wish to end this by saying
Oh you false prophets
STFU
The real God is not calling you
And never has
But the fake god
That’s another story
But, please
Just SFTU already
Fake People
I am living in a world of fake people
Everyone around me is fake
Everyone is running their own scams
Hiding their true nature
Behind their fake smiles
Their fake sincerity
Nothing is real any more
The news is fake
Nothing but noise
Designed to trap you
In endless out rage
And fear
For the profits
Made by the evil masters
The spin masters
The people behind the news
And everyone pretends
That this is all real
But everyone knows
It is all fake
Fake people living fake lives
In fake worlds
Surrounded by fake things
And believing fake Gods
As we all move forward
Living our fake life
In a fake world
Lost in a fake universe
Governed by a fake God
Fake Love
There is nothing real anymore
In this fake world of ours
Everything has been reduced
To nothing but commodities
To be bought and sold
And in such a toxic world
There is no room
For true love
For truth
For a real love
That transcends the fake world
And even if you find the one
You can never be sure
If it is real
Could just be yet another scam
In a world filled with fake people
Fake relationships
Fraud, and fear
Rule the world
And the market rules us all
And so true love
Has no role
In the fake modern world
Fake Life
We all live in a fake world
Imagining the illusions
Are the real world
It is all in our insane heads
Nothing but psychotic nonsense
That we project into the world
The world is filled with fake people
Living fake lives in fake villages
In faked communities
Following the latest faked scandal
The latest fake outrage
Not knowing or caring
That nothing is real
Except perhaps death
And taxes
And if you have the right attorney
Even that can be faked
Fake Death
The Gods of Science
Are about to discover
The secrets of life and death
And banish death
To the dust bin of history
As we all replace
Our bodies and our souls
With robotic new fake bodies
With the illusion
That we can live forever
Just replacing this and that body part
Living out our empty life
Wishing that we could end it all
And embrace death
But in world of fake life
Death too becomes fake
And so we are doomed
To live our futile fake life
Until at last we meet death
Perhaps in a thousand years
Perhaps in a million years
Perhaps tomorrow
Death in the end
Will prove to be
The one real thing
In this fake universe of ours
Fake Calls
Fake Calls
Every day I get woken up
As the sun comes up
By my phone ringing
With a fake call
It seems that the only people
Who ever bother to call me
Are the fake call people
Who all call me
With fake sincerity
Offering me a great deal
On this and that scam
I curse at them
Yell at them
Mutter obscenities in foreign tongues
And block their calls
Yet it does not seem to matter
The next call will be
Yet another fake call
Am I doomed to receive
Fake calls until I day I die
I turn on my computer
And read my fake news accounts
And watch TV for the latest fake news
And the politicians lying
And the criminals scheming
To take my money
The Zappa song comes to mind
You will obey me while I lead you
And eat the garbage that I feed you
Until the day that we don’t need you
Don’t go for help . . . no one will heed you
Your mind is totally controlled
It has been stuffed into my mold
And you will do as you are told
Until the rights to you are sold
That’s right, folks . . .
Don’t touch that dial
And I scream to the universe
Just leave me alone
Then the phone rings…..
Fake News

Of the constant deluge
The constant flood
Of fake news in my inbox
It seems everything is fake these days
The Presidents lies
The media lies
The country lies to itself
Everything is not all right jack
And never will be right
As long as have the idiot in charge
With his constant tweets
Posturing and lies
And the spinmeisters
Spinning away
The truth is a lie
The lie is true
I can’t tell any more
It is all fake news to me
Enough no more
Give it to me straight
Quit the god damn lying
And tell us the truth
But then we can’t handle the truth
Can me?
And so the fake news continues
The constant spam
The constant lies
As we all die
From too much information
All the time

But everyone knows
It is all fake
Fake people living fake lives
In fake worlds
Surrounded by fake things
And believing fake Gods
As we all move forward
Living our fake life
In a fake world
Lost in a fake universe
Governed by a fake God
Fake Love
There is nothing real anymore
In this fake world of ours
Everything has been reduced
To nothing but commodities
To be bought and sold
And in such a toxic world
There is no room
For true love
For truth
For a real love
That transcends the fake world
And even if you find the one
You can never be sure
If it is real
Could just be yet another scam
In a world filled with fake people
Fake relationships
Fraud, and fear
Rule the world
And the market rules us all
And so true love
Has no role
In the fake modern world
Fake Life
We all live in a fake world
Imagining the illusions
Are the real world
It is all in our insane heads
Nothing but psychotic nonsense
That we project into the world
The world is filled with fake people
Living fake lives in fake villages
In faked communities
Following the latest faked scandal
The latest fake outrage
Not knowing or caring
That nothing is real
Except perhaps death
And taxes
And if you have the right attorney
Even that can be faked
Fake Death
The Gods of Science
Are about to discover
The secrets of life and death
And banish death
To the dust bin of history
As we all replace
Our bodies and our souls
With robotic new fake bodies
With the illusion
That we can live forever
Just replacing this and that body part
Living out our empty life
Wishing that we could end it all
And embrace death
But in world of fake life
Death too becomes fake
And so we are doomed
To live our futile fake life
Until at last we meet death
Perhaps in a thousand years
Perhaps in a million years
Perhaps tomorrow
Death in the end
Will prove to be
The one real thing
In this fake universe of ours
Fake Calls
Fake Calls
Every day I get woken up
As the sun comes up
By my phone ringing
With a fake call
It seems that the only people
Who ever bother to call me
Are the fake call people
Who all call me
With fake sincerity
Offering me a great deal
On this and that scam
I curse at them
Yell at them
Mutter obscenities in foreign tongues
And block their calls
Yet it does not seem to matter
The next call will be
Yet another fake call
Am I doomed to receive
Fake calls until I day I die
I turn on my computer
And read my fake news accounts
And watch TV for the latest fake news
And the politicians lying
And the criminals scheming
To take my money
The Zappa song comes to mind
You will obey me while I lead you
And eat the garbage that I feed you
Until the day that we don’t need you
Don’t go for help . . . no one will heed you
Your mind is totally controlled
It has been stuffed into my mold
And you will do as you are told
Until the rights to you are sold
